Chapter 6 Do Hard Things

Chapter 6: I think my group can raise the bar by not being foolish with other people and helping one another in our group. We could also show excellence not excuses by showing the teachers that we could become a good group. Not just groups that make excuses and show no excellence through out the unit. We could also do more hard things like choosing values like do what’s hard for you and pursue excellence. My group can also raise the bar by going deeper about the main focus of the organization, which is child soldier. We can interview people, organization and more.

This book is talking about how we can raise a bar that go beyond of what’s expected or required. In this chapter Alex and Brett Harris is exploring phrases like “just do your best” can do more harm then good. I think what they are trying to say is that if we do our best we can also get an even better grade than just good. If I measure my life by excellence and not just excuses I think people is going to start recognizing the changes that I have made.

Chapter 5 Do Hard Things

Chapter 5 is about “Life is full of scary things,” write Alex and Brett. Most of us can relate! The prob- lem comes when we let fear or discomfort limit what we attempt or dream for our lives. Most teens are afraid to speak in public, try something new, go somewhere new, or meet new people. Interestingly, all these experience usually turn out posi- tively—or at least give us the most interesting stories. If we’re willing to act in spite of fear, risk failure when necessary, and trust God, our lives will change radically for the better. And we’ll accomplish more than we ever could have imagined.

chapter 4 Do Hard Things

This chapter starts with the story of Ray, a teen party guy who hasn’t grown up, and isn’t sure he wants to. He’s choosing fun now over the future he says he wants. He’s heading toward what the authors call “a failure to launch.” Why? Because the teen years are like a diving board that, if we land on the right spot, will launch us into our best possible future. If we miss (or don’t even jump), we risk never launching. Most of us know a Ray—a “kidult”—who still hasn’t launched at twenty-five, thirty, or even older. The authors then identify five categories of hard things that promise to deliver high-impact results now and later if we do them.

chapter 3 do hard things

An elephant is an incredibly powerful beast that can be restrained by a piece of twine. (No kidding.) And that powerful animal just might be you, say Alex and Brett. That myth is an assumption that the teen years can’t add up to much and are meant to be spent as some sort of vacation from responsibility. Unfortunately, those low ex- pectations end up trapping and limiting teens for no good reason. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Even the word teenager, the authors point out, is a recent invention. We can choose to live by higher standards. We can leave childish ways behind and grow up. We can decide to do hard things.

Chapter 2 Do hard things

Chapter two is a little bit deeper but not to deep. Its starting to go a bit deeper by they explain how the teens face their challenges and more.

The negative thing that I learned is that this chapter is just talking about campaign and stuff. The positive thing is that its good because it helps us prepare to be teens.

The thing that I like is that about this chapter is that its easy to understand and I don’t dislike anything from this chapter.

Chapter 1 Do hard things

In this unit of English were starting to read about do hard things. The feeling that I have when I read this book is nervous because this book is about how teens have low expectation. The feeling that I have when I read the first chapter is still normal because the first chapter isn’t that deep of information and its just talking about how they made this book and more.

The positive side that I got from this chapter is that its good for teens. Its just talking about the basic but its good to tell teens that we don’t have low expectation and more. There is no negative parts about this chapter because it just still the basic and its not deep enough.

The part that I dislike is that why does teens doesn’t have that many freedom in other generation. The other thing that I dislike is that this book is hard to make question

I liked the way of how this twins made this book and how it shows that our culture have low expectation for them. I’m not in the teen years I’m going to be a teenager when I’m thirteen. I think that year is the teen’s year because the number is starting to en with a “teen”.

Unit 3 How We organise ourselves

In sixth grade we have six units of inquiry or as we called it UOI. Now we are on the third unit," wow times goes fast in sixth grade". Our third unit is How We Organize Ourselves. Our unit is made out of a central idea:Our Attitudes, values and social structures can promote and deny social justice, Lines of Inquiry:• The Principles of human rights and social justice
• Government structures and how they promote or deny social structures
• How personal, social and institutional behaviors and attitudes affect social justice

and key concept:Function
Responsibility
I want to add 3 additional lines of inquiry and through out this unit i will find the answer. the first one is why people these days in Indonesia rarely care about human rights. the second one is how can the government help with human right. the last one is Why the government didn't help with human rights issues.

Retreat

On Wednesday October 16 2009, we went on a retreat to Lembah Hijau its in puncak. We stayed there 3 days and 2 nigts. It was fun many of us cried on the last night because we confess our sins and will not do it again. Many of the student said sorry to me and only 1 student said sorry to me on that retreat. It was a good trip we have a good preacher Mr.Rob he was AWESOME!!!!!! he did many tricks well anyway he was awesome. We built more relationship with our mighty lord and savior. At the first night my friend Ethan screams and all of my friend in my bungalow ran to Mr.Gregg's bungalow because when he screamed it sounded like he saw a ghost or something like that. The worst thing on the retreat was when the first night we set the alarm at 4 o'clock in the morning, and the second night was 4:30 in the morning so we were very tired. We did talent show eat corn and more. the water in the swimming pool was EXTREMELY FREEZING. Another worst thing is the hike, its soooooooooo long. My best part is when that person said sorry to me, i was very happy when she said sorry to me.

UOI Unit 1 Reflection

UOI Reflection
By: Dennis 6B
In these past 6 weeks of grade 6, in UOI we are learning about Who We Are. This unit is about how we grow, about boy/girl reproductive system and conception to birth. We watched a video about our reproductive system works and how God made us to be special. On the first task of unit 1 we did an oral presentation talking about the three environmental factors/expects that has influenced us. My expects were family, God and video games. I put video games there because is a negative expects that has influenced me negatively.

The Project that I enjoy is the summative 2 it’s conception to birth because it’s fun and we can see pictures from the past, cool picture from the internet and making it into a book with lots of decoration and more. The project that I didn’t enjoy was the create a game, because it’s confusing and we arguing with our group about how to play the game, the equipments that we needed and especially the rules. My group was Jason, Stefanus and Anthony. They all helped me a lot in doing these activities they support me to do things that I rarely do like think about ideas and more.

For me there are lots of areas of improvements for these summative tasks. Like my oral presentation I got a bit of Developing but its okay because I still have a chance in the 2nd unit to fix my grades and boost it higher so I can pass grade 6 and move on to grade 7 and move on to grade 8 until I graduate to university. This following week had been a great week for me because I completed my summative tasks for UOI and I’m a bit sad about the oral presentation grades but it’s ok because I got another chance to fix it in the 2nd unit of UOI. To fix my grade, my strategies to fix it are that I need to change my time managements to be successful and graduate to senior school.

There is lots of new information that I got in these following weeks. For example like the growth and developments video. That video has many information about our reproductive system works and how a baby was delivered from a mother womb to the new world and sometimes it can cause death when delivering a baby because it hurts. That video also gave me of how twins or identical twins were born. Some mother have twins/identical twins because when the sperm meets the egg it separate and it became two and sometimes it will become twins or identical twins. Some mothers have triplets, Triplets is when a mother delivered 3 babies at the same day but not times. This process of having triplets is rarely happen to some mothers.
The feeling that I had when we talked/work about this is normal because it’s not new for me and we talked about in grade 4 but only a little and it’s not that deep, but in grade six is a bit deep but not as deep as the senior students that have talked about it. The good positive points that I took in this project is that God made us to be special and he made us to be good and tell more about his words to the non believer. I don’t take any negative points in this project because all of it is positive.
The two profile attribute in the past six week are reflection and thinker because in the past 6 weeks I reflect and I think about the things that I’m going to use to do the projects. The two profile that I use in the past 6 weeks are confidence and respect because I showed respect to all my friends and teachers that are doing the presentation. I used confidence in this past 6 weeks because there is an oral presentation so I need to be confidence first before doing it.

Oliver Twist

So Oliver was running elatedly. While he was running there was a group of soldier running in sequintial order. When the soldier looked at Oliver they run profoundly fast until they caught him. They caught him and caught one of his sullen dastardly friend. So the guards put Oliver and his friend to a miniature dungeon. Oliver and his friend depreciate when the guards command him to do something. They stayed there for a couple days.

School and life

In the fifth week of grade 6 we did an edible cell, oral presentation, and some summaticve task. Our first unit was who we are, on the 24th-27 of August the boys and the girls were saperated to learn about their riproductive systems. On the 27th August we did a 2nd summative task which is conception to birth. We need to explain how does the process of giving a new life. Like how does the sprem and the egg meet, what happens when a baby in a womans womb, why does the is called a fetus and how to deliever and more. So there is many summative task comming up in grade 6 and some of them are hard and some of them are not.

Oral presentation

Good morning world. Through out my life this environmental factors have influence me in different ways like making me sick and more. When I was growing up I faced these environmental influences like God, video games and family, they can be a negative and a positive influences. That has influence me more in my life. This has influenced me by passing grades, giving life, and the negative is such as making me sick, grades getting lower and more. Caring family is a family that cares for you and will help you through out your life.

The first aspect I’m going to talk about is family. A caring family is a family that cares about you. Family can influence me by caring and supporting me to pass grade levels, like when my grades went down in grade five, my family helped me and support me. Families are important because they will be there for you. Like when here is a parents meeting because of my grade my is always there to help me. This is a positive thing cause someday in your life you need to take care of your self. A family is a group of people that will help you and never give up, like they won’t give up on you.

The second aspect is games. Games can make us fail in some academic subject. For example when I was in grade five, games make my grades lower and almost made me fail grade five. Games can make me not focus on our schoolwork. Like in my life when I’m not focus sometimes because I can’t get things done. Games can make you sick because you don’t get enough rest and sleep and sometimes it can make your eyes tired. For example in my life when my brother and I stayed up late playing games, my mom got mad at us and we needed to sleep, the next day my eyes were red and I got head ache because I didn’t get enough rest and I played games. Some games are safe to play but not until midnight and some games can help us build our mental math skills.

Okay the last aspect is God, God influence me by giving me this life that is important because, to live we need life and life comes from God. For example in my life I’ve been influence by God and making me smarter. This is a positive thing cause God never give up, God always help me every time I need him. This is true because God is the creator of all things and he will not make us fail and give up, and he is like heaven in our heart. God always be there for me cause he will make me successful. Like in my life, God made me successful by helping move and me in grade five on to grade six and making me smarter and more organized.

In conclusion some of these influences affect my life but it won’t keep going on if we go through hardship and make changes to our world and your life to make you a better person to praise God and share Gods Word. Thank you for listening to my presentation
